Born Clara Morrison, she began her stage career at 13 in Cleveland and continued to play in mid-West cities until 1870. At that time she relocated to New York and became a member of Augustin Daly's company. She made her first New York appearance in 'Man and Wife' to great acclaim. She worked with Daly for nine years continuing to play in hit shows. Her last stage appearance was in 'Macbeth,' at a benefit performance. She left her home in Tuckahoe, NY to see friends in Connecticut where she passed away. She left no immediate surviving relatives.
